Relationship Between WAN and LAN

This diagram shows the relationship between
--LAN (Local Area Network)
--WAN (Wide Area Network).

Breakdown:

1. LAN (Local Area Network):
•A LAN connects computers, servers, and workstations within a limited area such as an office, school, or home.

Inside each LAN, there are:
•Servers → manage resources and services (like files, applications, databases).

•Workstations (PCs) → used by end users to access resources and communicate.

-LANs are usually fast (high-speed connections like Ethernet or Wi-Fi) but limited in geographic reach.

2. WAN (Wide Area Network):
•A WAN connects multiple LANs across large geographic areas (different cities, countries, or even globally).

•In this diagram, three LANs are linked together via a WAN.

•WANs use long-distance communication technologies (like leased lines, satellite, MPLS, or the Internet).

•Example: The Internet itself is the biggest WAN.

Simple Terms:
✓Think of LAN as your local office network (computers + server connected together).
✓WAN is like the network of offices in different cities connected together, so they can share data and communicate.

→ So here, each small circle is a LAN, and the big triangle in the middle labeled WAN connects all those LANs together into one big network.
