Elon Musk steps down as special govt employee in Donald Trum's Administration (DOGE)

Elon Musk has officially stepped down from his role as a Special Government Employee in the Trump administration, concluding his 130-day tenure leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
His departure follows public criticism of President Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill," a substantial tax and spending package that Musk argued undermines DOGE's mission to reduce government waste and increases the federal deficit .

During his time with DOGE, Musk aimed to cut $2 trillion in federal spending but later adjusted the goal to $150 billion.

While DOGE claims to have saved $160 billion, critics question the accuracy of these figures, noting that the cuts may have cost taxpayers $135 billion in 2025 .

Musk's tenure was marked by internal conflicts and legal challenges, including lawsuits alleging that DOGE's actions violated privacy and constitutional laws .

Despite stepping down, Musk expressed gratitude to President Trump and confidence in DOGE's ongoing mission.

He plans to refocus on his business ventures, including Tesla, SpaceX, and his AI startup xAI .
